Cheap Price, Good Music: the Samsung M2510

The new Samsung M2510 is made specifically for people who do not really give much fuss about their mobile devices but would appreciate having a phone that can play audio without much problems. This phone delivers high-end music with a low-cost device 'a perfect balance. Of course, being a GSM device, this certainly rules out anyone who likes to use their phone for going online.

A music only-device is not bad, but it certainly is not unique. Music playback, particularly MP3 playback, is a feature common in most mobile phones. The M2510 takes the feature up a level by using the Digital Natural Sound engine (DNSe) in order to enhance the overall quality of audio output.

Dimensions, Display, DNSe

The size of the M2510 is typical of a GSM device; at 99.5 x 46.5 x 15.7 mm, this phone will not stand out of the shelves when put beside other 2G phones -though it does have an interesting design that would catch your eye if you like phones with edgy looking faces. Anyway, the real beauty of this phone comes out when you slide up the screen. The slider form gives the phone a very sporty look. The weight of this phone, including the battery, is only 90.5 grams making it very light to lug around without being a bother.

Screen wise, this phone is certain to displease high-res fans (who should be looking for high-end smart phones anyway). Considering that this low-budget phone was made for those who prefer music, the screen is best described as functional. The 176 x 220 pixel resolution gives you a nice view of the user interface and will display fonts very nicely.

The 256 color display capacity makes it easy to preview images you shoot with the built-in camera. With video, the phone can only handle 3GP and MP4 formats. The screen is able to give a decent playback, but do not expect the refresh rate to keep up with high-speed clips.

As you might have expected, the real gem in this device is its music playback capability. Certainly by now, most mobile fans have seen it all. So Samsung is not going to stand out in terms of delivering anything new, but they intend to do well by making this phone perform as best as it can.

The Snapper

This is a modern GSM phone, and as such, it is not without its own built-in camera. The 1.5 mega pixel snapper is not the most impressive thing around, but the 1280 x 1024 images are still print-worthy (reaching up to three inches at 300 dpi prints). The camera can also do video recordings as well. We doubt that music fans will be making much use of this feature though.

The M2510 Battery

The battery used in the Samsung M2510 has a capacity of 800 mAh (slightly below the more common 900-1100 mAh batteries used in other 2G phones). This lithium-ion rechargeable battery comes packed with the device and will deliver excellent usage hours on a full charge. On standby mode, the phone will run for a 360 hours. Continuous talk time for this phone has been rated at 8 full hours.
