Why is 4G Wireless Internet a Big Deal?

What is the deal with 4G Internet and why is it making waves in the technology world today?  4G stands for fourth generation Internet.  This is a type of mobile Internet that operates four times faster than 3G or third generation Internet.  ISP providers that work with 4G technology offer faster performance and enhanced mobility.

Wireless Internet only works within a short distance of the modem source.  However, this new technology can sustain an Internet connection throughout the city.  It's similar to the way an Internet-ready mobile phone works but is much faster.  This technology approaches broadband speed (and may surpass it) but it is far more mobile.  One could easily check his or her email while driving in a car.

Immediately, 4G Internet provides plenty of work-related advantages.  What if you forget your work files or your business presentation?  No problem since your backup hard rive is right in front of you and you can connect to the net while in the public bathroom!  What if you need to send some photos or some large database files to a work associate but are not by a hotel?  No problem, because as long as you're within the city (or wherever there are towers) you stay connected.  It's much more stable and reliable than mobile cell phones or wireless PC signals.

Of course, one cannot only consider the 'fun' parts of 4G broadband.  What about the personal advantages here?  Imagine being able to talk to an old friend or relative from any location and without having to pay long distance charges.  You can simply use a digital phone or Internet voice chat and talk for hours.  You can use a web camera with ease and get a crystal clear picture.  You could watch all of your favorite TV shows or movies online.  You could even watch live sports games from anywhere in town.

If you are a gamer then you will enjoy the idea of playing your favorite game from the park or from a school detention center.  (Just try not to get caught!)  Joggers can download new songs while they jog, and parents can download new movies while they go shopping.  This is a technology that embraces fun and business at the same time.

There's another reason why 4G Wi-Max is so popular however, and this doesn't have much to do with computers.  This is because manufacturers are installing 4G technology into all of their new multimedia devices.  Car manufacturers are putting 4G broadband into new cars so new movies can be instantly played and downloaded on the car TV.  This technology is being installed in video phones and GPS systems.

Of course, a lot of appliances and gadgets had 3G technology years ago.  With 4G technology, however, the speed increases four-fold.  You can download movies, music and files at a much faster rate, which makes instant communication easy.  Suddenly, our machines are much 'smarter' than they used to be.

Find out if 4G technology is in your area by looking up your city and state.  You may be surprised to know that 4G is already in your neighborhood.
